CitizenoftheyearNot one but two Lago Vistans were named citizens of the year Saturday night, prior to the annual Lago Vista and Jonestown Membership Banquet and accompanying Boots and Bling Casino Night and Auction.

Clive Rutherford and Matt Underwood were both named citizens of the year, chamber executive director Sherri Jander announced.

Rutherford and his wife Joyce created a property management company a little more than four years ago, then expanded into real estate two-and-a-half years ago. 1431 Real Estate and Property Management offers a complete range of mostly residential real estate and management services.

“Clive has done so many wonderful things for this community,” Jander told about 250 people during the event at the K-Oaks Clubhouse. “He was chair of the 2013 La Primavera Bicycle Race, which brought in thousands of people from all over the United States as well as other countries.”

Jander also noted Rutherford’s efforts to establish the Northshore Star newspaper in the Lago Vista and Jonestown area.

The other Citizen of the Year is Lago Vista Independent School District Superintendent Matt Underwood.

“He is a great leader in our community and is instrumental in planning and building our new high school,” Jander said. “I love the school’s mission statement, which says, in part, ‘All graduates will leave our school with the ability to live and work as compassionate citizens and mature, effective adults. We are committed to sending into the world individuals who use problem-solving skills to impact their communities in a responsible manner.’”

The Lago Vista and Jonestown chamber also recognized Edward D. Jones Investments as its Business of the Year. The investment company is owned by Trey and Lana Cox.

“Trey has been on the board of directors of the Lago Vista and Jonestown Chamber of Commerce since 2010 and he and Lana have helped in many fundraisers and community events,” Ms. Jander says. “They have been top sponsors in golf tournaments, musical festivals and casino nights as well as volunteering many hours to helping make these events successful.”

Bill Wallace was honored with the chamber’s Member of the Year award. Wallace is vice-president of the chamber’s 2014 board of directors. He owns Hill Country Lakes Homes and www.hollowsvacationrentals.com .

“He was instrumental in making the 2013 Chamber Challenge golf tournament a sold-out event and the most successful of all chamber golf tournaments,” Jander noted.

The executive director said this year’s event was “very successful,” pointing out that it “helps support our local businesses as well as raise money for high school scholarships that we give each year.

“It was a great turnout and I think everyone had a very good time,” Jander said.

Casino Night committee members are chairman Donna Hensley (Security State Bank), Sherri Jander, Elaine Amacher, Anita Klingler, Sherilyn Beal, Kathy Grafius (Minuteman Press in Cedar Park), Daffana Gray (Security National Mortgage in Austin) and Lisa Shaw (Ted Hollen Law Office).
